About This Site

This portal has been developed by the (Australian) Internet Industry Association (IIA) in partnership with some of its members. Funding was also provided by the then National Office for the Information Economy (NOIE now the Australian Government Information Management Office.

It was launched by the then Minister for Communication IT and the Arts Senator Richard Alston on 14 August 2004. Click on the image to the right to see our Virtual Plaque - (a pdf 196 kb).

Purpose

The Security Portal is an initiative designed to assist small to medium sized enterprises make better and more effective use of the internet.

It brings together the information resources of the Australian industry, government and research organisations as well as those from overseas. It is a mechanism for diverse organisations to contribute knowledge with the aim of assisting small and medium sized businesses as well as domestic users to participate in the advantages of doing business on the internet with a sound understanding of Internet security and the tools and information necessary to manage the risks.

The IIA cannot guarantee the accuracy or reliability of the information on this site or accessible via links to content or resource communities, and assumes no responsibility for the timeliness or validity of the information derived from them.

Management

The Security Portal is being established in two phases.

Phase 1 has involved the design and development of the site as it now stands.

During Phase 2 the site will continue to develop and be expanded taking into account feedback provided by users and will include many additional features.

Editorial Policy


Content submitted to the Security Portal by users is subject to prior review by the Editor (see section on content management below), who will determine its suitability. Any content offered to the site may be rejected by the Editor if, in the Editor's opinion, it advocates violence, contains profanity, is inflammatory in nature, is not relevant to the subject of that section of the site, or is otherwise inappropriate.
Contributors to the site are required to warrant that they hold the rights including moral rights in the work and that they indemnify the IIA against any third-party action. The views expressed in content appearing on the Security Portal are entirely those of the originators, and should not be attributed in any manner to the Internet Industry Association, its partners and sponsors or NOIE unless it claims authorship.

Content Management

The content management system used for the site is based on the editorial judgment of selected individuals and organisations that demonstrate extensive knowledge of the subject, objectivity, and openness. The Editor is responsive to direction from the IIA, advisors and experts in the subject area, who themselves are drawn from a range of organisations.

The site uses a deferred publishing approach, so that content suggested by users is reviewed prior to acceptance on the site. Selection of resources, issues, discussion topics, news, and technical data for the site is, to the extent possible, based on fact, careful analysis, and the needs of SMEs or domestic users.

Submitting content to this site will be deemed as granting permission for its publication. Publication will not give rise to any claim for payment.

The Editor reserves the right to edit for length, relevance, style or any other matter.

Links


The Portal Editor is under no obligation to link to any site, or to accept the contribution of any individual or organization. The sole criteria is usefulness for the intended audience. Links and resources are periodically checked for suitability.

Errata


The IIA is committed to correcting quickly any errors of fact or interpretation that stem from decisions or actions of the editorial staff.

Contributions


All contributions to the SME Security Portal must conform to the IIA Editorial Policy and contribute to the objectives of the Portal.
Unsolicited entire contributions should not be sent to the Editor. Any content offered will be rejected if it advocates violence, contains profanity, is inflammatory in nature, is not relevant to the subject, is culturally insensitive, contrary to IIA policy or in our opinion the interests of Internet users.

Our Partners

The SME Security Portal is supported by a range of IIA member organisations recognised for the key role they play in their respective fields in Australia.
Partner organisations can provide:
* Advice to the IIA on the inclusion of Portal content including links, documents, other publications and services;
* Commentary, news and other material included on the Portal; and
* Moderation and management of forums if these are established.
